If your child is struggling in school, having difficulty reading, or finding it hard to remain on task, the cause may be an undetected vision problem, even if your child's eyesight is 6/6 or 20/20.

In fact, many of these children are often suspected of having learning disabilities, dyslexia, or attention deficits disorder when the real culprit is their vision especially when we consider that 80% of learning comes from our eyes.

Following are some indicators for parents and teachers that may suggest that a child’s vision is not developing as it should:

  • avoids close work

  • holds reading material closer than normal

  • tends to rub their eyes

  • headaches

  • turns or tilts their head to use only one eye

  • uses their finger to maintain their place while reading

  • leaves out small words when reading

  • has trouble remembering what has been read

  • makes reversals when reading or writing

  • blinking excessively when doing near work

Other signs to watch for:

  • irritable, restless, or always tired

  • short attention span or frequent daydreaming
